One morning on our way to McDonalds for breakfast we passed by the remnants of demolished car repair shops along the road. It rained the night before, whatever was salvageable in the wreckage now buried in muck. Among the rag pickers scavenging the area were some shop owners sitting dejected and hopeless staring in front of the rubble. With their source of income now wiped away they must be feeling that life has dealt them a bad hand. I thought of the families they have to feed. Of their kids who have to go to school. Of how they will manage now.
” But they knew it is illegal all along.” replied my husband when I told him I felt sorry for them.
Which is true. Sometimes we make decisions to do something even though we know we would be on the wrong track and would try to risk it, crossing our fingers, hoping that just for us the universe will adjust and give us the outcome we hope for. This never works. The universe is governed by its own law. Like the law of gravity, what comes up must come down. Except of course if you are a satellite in space. So if it is illegal you will get caught. And if the clouds are dark it will rain.
When these shop owners were earning money even though they knew that one day they will be evicted they probably thought that life was good and fate was smiling on them while on the contrary dark clouds have been hovering over them all this while. When suddenly it poured they then thought tragedy have befallen upon them. I think no misfortune ever happens to us without us initiating it first consciously or unconsciously , unless of course we are really unlucky. Like for example being on an airplane crash. I believe that what ever you put out there is what you will get. I have seen it happened so many times. Their is no shortcut in life. Only hard work pays eventually.
Experience taught me that if I live my life according to Newton’s ‘Three Laws of Motions’ not only will I improve my life but also my perception of it.
1. Newton’s First Law of Motion states that in order for the motion of an object to change, a force must act upon it, a concept generally called inertia. Every body continues in its state of rest, or of uniform motion in a straight line, unless it is compelled to change that state by forces impressed upon it.
Every time I get stuck in my life and I find myself in a rut this law always pops up in my mind. I would always remind myself that I need to start something if I want something to happen to me. If I want to be a published author I have to stop dreaming about it and start writing something. Just write, write, write. Keep on writing. If your stuff is good someone will notice. At least start writing. Waiting for something to happen to you while doing nothing at all never never works.
When I was still in school and was looking for something to supplement my allowance I would submit short stories to local magazine publications. Some stories got rejected but some got published as well. But these companies pay very little so I thought of applying as a writer/ illustrator for a comic publishing company. I didn’t know anything about writing or drawing for comics then but I like writing stories and illustrating them. I thought there was no harm in trying. I even got lost looking for their office and I had to walk around in circles for half an hour before finally getting there. I informed the guard I wanted to apply as a writer who told me to go to one editor who laughed at me and told me to ask one lady editor if she can give me a job. The lady editor, ma’am Cely, took a liking to my stories and sketches. A few months later I was a regular contributor to various publications.
From this I learned how to approach all my succeeding ventures in life. I will figure out what I want to do and do it. Most of the time it worked for me.
2. Newton’s Second Law of Motion defines the relationship between acceleration, force, and mass.
The acceleration produced by a particular force acting on a body is directly proportional to the magnitude of the force and inversely proportional to the mass of the body.
In my life this means you cannot not go very far if you are weigh down with insecurities, fear and ego. Lose these baggages and just keep on going and you will not even realize you have reached the finish line and you have achieved your dreams.
had I let my fear of rejection got in my way I would not gotten that job at the comic publication. If I did not put my ego aside when that editor laughed at me I would have turned back and went home to cry. But I was able to ignore the insult and achieved what I came there for.
3. Newton’s Third Law of Motion states that any time a force acts from one object to another, there is an equal force acting back on the original object. If you pull on a rope, therefore, the rope is pulling back on you as well. To every action there is always opposed an equal reaction; or, the mutual actions of two bodies upon each other are always equal, and directed to contrary parts.
These law serves to remind me that I cannot always get my way. One, people think differently
and that for every idea I have some one else might think differently and this is not a bad thing. It just is. I will not stress over it. Just learn to agree to disagree. Two, events can go against my favor for I am just one of the 7 billion human being trying to make it in this world and the universe does not cater to me alone. Learn to accept and be patient until you get your turn.
With these in mind I rarely blame, fate, destiny, universe or other people for the outcome of my life. My decision making plays a very big part in it. When I’ve thrown all I can in the universe that’s when I sit and wait for magic to happen.
